Ciseaux Heart Freebie for Becky

Dear Becky has let me know that the little pyn pillow I sent to her arrived safely (and thankfully she liked it!), so I can now share it here. I took WAY too many pics of it, and I can somehow only narrow it down to eight to post here--maybe you can look through them, pick a favorite, and then pretend that you never saw the others? Thanks. :)



Colors pretty accurate here.

A bit of a gleam from its companion--a nice, thick mop button! Or is it no different that the above. Maybe I just love that comforter. I LOVE that yellow duvet cover. So much that it's still out. In June. Some nights it's cold, you know. Right. Down-requiring cold.



I used an irregular pattern for attaching the perimeter red mill hills (3 types left over from some Christmas ornament kits).





I love how the red looks on this teal/cream bedspread. Too bad I bought it rather than making it! I really need to learn how to quilt.





I somehow marshaled the restraint to delete the other pics of the back from the to-be-blogged folder. I had a great time using some tan rit dye to overdye this red stripe ticking. :)



Fabric: 32 ct. Vintage Antique Ivory
Fiber: DMC 115 & 434, stitched 2/2
Other: Mill Hill Beads, buttons from stash.
Filled with crushed walnut shells for weight.

Other-Other: I drew SO much inspiration and instruction from Staci this time: I used not only her idea of making a little beaded pin pillow out of this freebie, but also directly referenced her instructions for dyeing with Rit and adding a beaded edge. Unfortunately I can't find where the pattern came from, having only remembered it when I saw her blog about the one she made for an exchange.

Thanks also go to Becky for her gift of 115; I had been looking for some and asked her where she gets it and she sent me a big fistful of it. Of course, I had to use some of it NOW. Also, of course having stitched 2 (but done the finishing of none) of these freebies, I wanted nothing more than to further spurn my WiPs pile and make ANOTHER one! Seriously, I enjoy this stitch. It also served as great research for what linen to use for "Good Morning". I liked it so much that I went with the same.

Next time: Pics of my finish-finished Sailboat Biscornu and perhaps some links to cool stuff I like/want to make soon. :)

I forgot the chart when away from the house, but was still able to stitch--thank you border! :D Usually, I pack EVERYTHING but the Needle. :) Out of season, but these steam-fried yams were so good! The recipe calls for a black sesame garnish, but I used fresh-grated nutmeg and cinnamon instead. I glugged in a little extra oil, and they did come out too oily! As the recipe says, it REALLY only needs one tablespoon. They won't get too oily if you do over-use as the potatoes are surprisingly non-porous. I took the good advice of Myra, Nancy and others and tried making a little sample bit of finished machine quilting. I think I really need some supplies such as gloves for grip and a slide-facilitating plate to put down around the plate. It'd be even better if I had a sewing table which puts the plate on the level of the whole table. I could only have one if it folds up, however, due to space constraints. I hope they make one, but have doubts due to the likelihood of ...

More Fox and Stash-clearing!~

I've been stitching on WiPs and also started stitching the model for my first Original Design, which will be a freebie when I get it finished! I am SO enjoying watching it take shape. Now, the progress pics! Decided to change the "B" on this one, but don't quite like it. I'm thinking of making it a darker color. Or should I just put my signature initial "B" and be done with it? And "November Windows" by Prairie Schooler (actually just "November"'s companion chart. I'm already almost out of the darkest color's skein for this one! The Fox! Tom needs a body--perhaps someone ate it! (actually the color I subbed--thinking it was only for the words--is way too dark so a plan B is in order.) Here's my finish of HE's Stitching Necessaire; I've had this one for a while, but still need to find the perfect finishing fabric. I know I need at least some felt for the pincushion, but I just don't...

Red & Green and Redbird Sampler(s)

Here's an update on Redbird (Thanks to Jolene :). At some point, a Red Bird (It's a cardinal, right?) will appear. This is on the same piece of linen as Fox Forest, BTW. When unfolded, it's like they are opposing armies lining up for battle. I completely love stitching with the Juniper (is it CC or WDW; can't recall, sorry!) on this Meadowlark. It's pictured in a crocheted basket from Ikea, one of my 3 or 4 "Happy Places". Annemarie ID'ed it last time as being from their Hallowed Halls Showroom, and it is only my desire to finish Redbird this year that is restraining me from waxing long on their wonderfulness. :) Meanwhile, my enormous blog hasn't made it off the presses, but I want to go ahead and share my joy at the wonderful surprise I received late last week in the mail!
