Remember Heart

Image
Hello, Everyone! I'd like to share my version of BlackBird Designs' Souvenir de France today. (^_^) Un Souvenir du Coeur This was my first time using this sort of blanket stitch appliqué with the raveled edges; I used Anchor perle cotton--love this colour!! I wish I could remember on whose blog I saw a brief tutorial on this technique! In any case, thank you! I made this for the Valentine's Exchange on the Holiday Exchange Group which is moderated by BeckySC . So, I added my own name (Berit) and that of the recipient ( April ) along with the year and the name of the group. Around the time I was making up this walnut-filled pyn pillow, I also upgraded my cell phone to one which had a 3.2 MegaPixel camera, which made it superior (in many respects) to our old Kodak 3.1. Now, I can enjoy the ultimate in lazy blog-photograpy: The good ol' "snap it with your phone then text to your email" procedure. I actually HATE taking/uploading/cropping pictures. I think this ...

Stitchy Updates

Whew; December is not an easy month to recover from! I've been feeling kind of quiet lately, and making a proper blog post--Whew! I don't know where to start! But, I do want to share what I've been working on, so I'll let the work do the talking this time, and away we go!! Here is my first finish for the year, a cube scissors fob to thank Nicole for kindly lending me her copy of BlackBird Designs' Beneath the Sunlit Sky (Loose Feathers No. 26). It is an arrangement of various motifs from the design, as well as our initials. I decided to make them a bit like a children's alphabet block, because we share the coincidence of having our first and last names begin with the same consonant ("N" and "B", respectively) I was a little worried that this was too forward of me, to put my initials on it as big as hers were, thinking, "This is for her, why will she want something personalized for someone else?! But, I decided it would be okay due to the...

Hello, Everyone! I do so hope that all is well with you and yours. December has been quite a month (and still is) yet I HAD to stop in for a very important reason: I have been lucky enough to win Jolene's Generous Christmas Wish Giveaway ! I could not have been more surprised to see this image on her blog amidst photos of her family's Christmas Fun: The condition of Jolene's giveaway this time was that you made a wish by telling her what, from your wishlist, you wanted to have as a new Start in 2010. Now, there are a lot of nice things on my wishlist, and I love them all, but I thought about what I might actually be able to START right now/soon (considering my WiPs, and an exchange commitment) and also the winter season and so narrowed it down to two things- Red Bird Sampler and Sweetheart Tree's Think Snow. I asked her to pick if I won. Secretly, I think I did want Red Bird More!!! Squeee! I'm really so thrilled about this one. Now, I'll have TWO WiPs featuring...

Wednesday Wish-Its (Three)

Leading the pack today: a mouse variation of the darling humbugs Ann has been making lately; Isn't he just the cutest!? I love everything about it--fabric and even the cute lace-edged jar he's perching upon. :D Next is Carol 's sophisticated "Pearls and Rosebuds Fob" from Drawn Thread. Carol, I understand, has been very busy with other commitments this year, and has not been as active in blogland as she has at other times, so I don't know her that well, but I sure feel like I know and enjoy her work! When I first started looking online for xstitch stuff, her works really stood out to me in places like the world's largest collection of smalls blogs. I am Such a fan of her works, and get so excited each time I see a finish perched upon a windowsill. Here's a little something from a photo tour of Mituswa I did a couple of years ago at my video game blog. It's a set of darling cat-themed mugs that were sold at Utsuwa no Yakata . They have a nice bit ...

A Winner is You!

Everyone, we have a winner! Robin , an order with Carol for Sew Winter has been placed--check your inbox; it could even be there now! Thank you all so much for your support of this giveaway; I am truly touched. I've joked to a few of you that I wasn't sure how to handle the draw--initally I figured that the number of entrants would make flipping a coin the most reasonable way to determine *which* entrant won. And, even then I was thinking that I'd have to enter myself, and keep flipping 'till the other person won! While entering your names into the randomizer, and reading your dear comments I was struck with a pang of sorrow--could you all not win? The Sew Series is sew(so) affordable...I actually did the calculation for how much it would cost to gift you all with it! :P Unfortunately, for 47 entrants there was no way! So, if you really did like the chart, consider treating yourself for me--you'll be assuaging my guilt in a big way. ;) But, in all seriousness, I w...

And here just in time for tomorrow is Myra 's rendition of the Primitive Bettys' freebie "Thankful" . I've seen a number of darling finishes of this around, but it was Myra's use of that gorgeous green which made me move this one from the "Oh, That's Cute" mental pile into the "Oh, I'll Probably Stitch This One Up" pile. :D If by chance you're not familiar with her blog, I really recommend it! Her "Mini Ziggy" is sure to bring a smile to your face, and I'm looking forward to watching progress on her ambitious "Dog's Day Out" project. Check her out!:D Here's another tasty snacklet of a freebie from Primitive Bettys: Wicked by the talented-yet-having-to-spend-all-her-time-slaving-away-to-prepare-for-moving Barbara Oh, how I love this!! The edging (I think it's vintage)! The pins! *swoons* unfortunately, she said this one stays with her--and I guess she meant it because it hasn't shown up i...

Birthday Stash for Me; a Giveaway for You

Image
Hello, everyone. Down Sunshine Lane offers a Birthday Club Discount, so I decided for my birthday to "bite the bullet" and try out some Rolaframes. Somehow *a few* other things wound up in the box... Here's the lot; the rolaframes are hiding in the back. (I got the 6" sidebars and the two shortest links of rollers.) Praiseworthy Stitches' Simple Gifts: Love (I really agonized over which one of this series to get; in the end I just went for the first. I love how the "2008" looks, but of course it won't be 2008 when I get around to stitching it. Thanks, which is just coming out also looks really excellent.), Jardin Privé's Gentleman Quaker (Figured I'd better get it, since it's imported and all. I like this guy better than the gal; he's a total Mr. Darcy.), and Prairie Schooler's Fox And Grapes (Have been drooling over this since Edgar worked it for an exchange --and of course those F&G scissors of last Wednesday!! I can't...
